How many vehicles Indians actually drove home each month — two-wheelers, cars, tractors, trucks and more — from FADA's retail registration data, sourced from the government's VAHAN portal. Retail is what left the showroom, not what makers shipped to dealers.

Reading the numbers. These are retail sales — vehicles registered at RTOs when a buyer takes delivery — not wholesale dispatches to dealers. FADA compiles them from the Ministry of Road Transport's VAHAN portal (~1,460 of ~1,470 RTOs). The recurring October–November peaks are the festive season; October 2025 is amplified by the September 2025 GST 2.0 rate cut, which pulled buyers off the fence — note the matching September dip. The Total follows FADA's headline (construction equipment enters the total from FY26; it is a rounding-level share). Two figures (Sep 2025, Jun 2026) are derived from FADA's own fiscal-year totals, shown dashed, pending the as-published monthlies. Each point is a month’s first-published figure; FADA keeps back-dating registrations to VAHAN for weeks afterward, so a year-earlier month is usually revised up a few percent. The year-on-year here compares first print with first print — a like-for-like snapshot — so it runs a touch above FADA’s headline, which measures this month’s fresh count against a fully-matured year-ago base. The fiscal-year-to-date figure uses FADA’s own cumulative.
